We need you, because…everyone deserves a champion
As we enter our 11th season of training, we want to thank each and every one of you for making it possible for us to reach this milestone! It has been our pleasure to share in your triathlon journey.
We hope you’ll consider working with us again this year. There are two ways you can be “part of the team.”
1. Join our team as a GEAR head.
As in years past, we always need Genuinely Enthusiastic Athletic Resources (GEAR) to help with our beginners. Your experience and passion for the sport aids in the success of each new triathlete. We will set up a website where you can pick the workouts where you’d like to volunteer your time and expertise. We would encourage you to sign up for at least three (3) workouts. This allows you the opportunity to get to know each athlete and feel connected to the success of the group members.
2. Join us for workouts
This worked out so well last year, that we’re sticking with it. You can sign up to assist with some workouts and join us as a participant for a discounted drop-in rate of $20 per session.
For example, if you are interested in receiving the online Olympic training program, you will pay $39 (via cash or check). For any drop in session you want to attend, it will be an additional $20. If you were to attend 13 sessions or more, it would make more sense to sign up for the full training; Sprint or Olympic. However, we don’t anticipate many of you will drop in for 13 sessions, so the $20/session drop in fee is a good deal; with or without the online training program. We hope this makes sense. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need more clarification or have any questions.
Please send payment to: TTNE, PO Box 271872, West Hartford, CT 06127.
Please spread the word about our training on facebook/twitter/etc. We could use your help in building the team!

FAQs for GEAR Heads
Can I do the training program AND be a GEAR Head?
We have devised a plan that will make it easy to identify you as a GEAR Head one day and a participant on another day. We will make it clear to our athletes who is there to assist during a workout and who is also participating in the workout.
How will the the Olympic training program work?
This training program is geared towards athletes who have trained with TTNE in the past. This motivated triathlete has participated in at least 2-3 sprint triathlons in the past 12-24 months. This athlete is looking for the experience of training with a group, meeting like-minded athletes but is comfortable enough to train the longer distances on his or her own. The Olympic training program is 12 weeks in duration. The training will begin 2 weeks prior to our first group training session and conclude on race day, August 2nd at the Greenfield Olympic Triathlon in Greenfield, MA. All group workout sessions will be geared for the Sprint training groups. When you need to make your workout longer, you can start with the group and continue with another “Olympic distance” athlete or on your own.
When are the workouts?
Most workouts will take place on Wednesdays (6:30-8:00 p.m) and Saturdays (7:00-9:00 a.m.) from May 27-July 29, unless noted. Our kickoff meeting will be on Wednesday, May 13. On Wednesday, May 20 we will have “Get to Know Your Bike Night” at Central Wheel in Farmington, CT. You are welcome to join both sessions. Always check ttne.us or Volunteer Spot for any updated locations or times.
How many workouts should I choose?
There are 19 workouts during our training season. We encourage you to select a minimum of three. Based on past experience, we know that the more you’re at the trainings, the more you get to know the athletes. While we know it’s fun for you to socialize with the athletes you already know, it’s important for the success of the program that you “bond” with the new members as well. We know it can be very rewarding, we hope you think so too!
What are the 2015 goal races?

We have a discount code for the Greenfield Triathlon: TTNE10 for a 10% discount. This will expire on July 15.

Olympic Distance Race:

Both races are a reasonable driving distance from the greater Hartford area and do not require an overnight stay. We have not booked any room blocks in either location.
As always, if you these races do not fit your schedule. let us know. We can help you identify another race and/or location.
Do I need to do the race?
No. You are not required to do the race. However, participating in the race is the frosting on the cake! We do not expect you to have any GEAR Head responsibilities. We want you to race and have fun!
What if I cannot make a workout session last minute?
Life happens and we understand. We just ask that you call, email or text us as soon as you know of your conflict. We will try to get someone to fill your spot. It’s more important that we know you’re not coming or else we’ll worry something happened to you on your way. We’re worriers…who isn’t?
I’ve read everything. I understand and accept my responsibilities. In short…I’m in! What do I need to do?
1. Sign up and let us know what dates you can attend.
Our Volunteer Sign Up is ready. We’re using VolunteerSpot (an online sign up and reminder tool) as an efficient simple way to pick which workouts you can attend. Please sign up – here’s how it works in 3 easy steps:
a) Click this link to go to our invitation page on VolunteerSpot.
b) Enter your email address. VolunteerSpot will then send you a PERSONAL signup invitation coded to your email address. (no registration required) Please note: VolunteerSpot does not share your email address with anyone or send spam emails.
c) Go to your email inbox and open the invitation from VolunteerSpot – click “Sign Up Now/Learn More” to choose your spots.
Note: If you have trouble accessing the site or prefer not to enter your email address – please email Lynne [firstname.lastname@example.org] directly and I can sign you up manually.
* Please don’t share your personal sign up invitation, the link is unique to your email address . If you delete your personal email invitation, please go to www.VolunteerSpot.com and click “Find My Activity Links” to get a new email with links to all your activities.
2. Sign up for our text message communication system.
We are using Remind, which provides a one-way communication tool that we are using to help us send important and immediate notices out to the whole team or just to you, the workout leaders. For instance, if there is a weather-related location change, parking update on the day of the race, a last-minute need for another person to help out or just an inspirational note, we will communicate to you with this system.
You are NOT able to respond to these messages, instead you should contact the TTNE coaches directly. If you have lost our cell phone numbers, please email us or call the main business number to get it from us.
To sign up please do the following:
1) Text this message: @gearhead to this number (475) 529-2274
2) You will get a response asking for your first and last name. Enter that, hit send and that’s it!
*If you ever want to stop getting these messages, all you need to do is simply reply with the word “stop”.
If you prefer getting the updates via email (though that may not get your attention the way a text message will), send a blank email to: email@example.com. Put your name in the Subject Line.
